Current Situation
Space planning for classes, extracurriculars, faculty officers, and so forth is typically managed via paper-based systems, manual processes, or simple spreadsheets. Recent events with COVID-19 required capacity planning to be more detailed at the user level to ensure physical distancing and tools for room booking and coordinate usage planning. Institutions continue to use these tools to optimize space planning and for classes and lectures.
Goals and Objectives
Support space planning, optimize building space usage, and control environmental factors that impact usage. Increasingly as digital and physical ecosystems merge operationally, more competencies and know-how are required to integrate information from both IT/OT sources effectively.
Technology Deployed
Smart building technologies such as occupancy sensors, analytics and AI, mobile devices, video, and collaborative software
Use Case Summary
Demands for teaching spaces, student workspaces, meetings, and events on multiple campuses are anticipated and met as needed; spaces are leveraged to optimize users’ enjoyment and usage of all campus spaces; and new ways to utilize space are tracked and identified.
