Managed Transportation (4PL)

Current Situation

A shipper’s transportation and logistics network is often managed by many different transportation intermediaries typically made up of carriers, freight forwarders, brokers, cargo agents, and 3PLs.

Goals and Objectives

The goal of this use case is to allow for more active management of transportation partners and lower systemwide costs, improve service levels to the end consumer, and improve vendor qualification and maintenance.

Use Case Summary

This 4PL model assigns one entity to manage many separate parties through systems integration, best practice implementation, and data aggregation. Having fewer or even a single provider in a “managed transportation” model allows for greater control tower visibility, improved logistics expertise, best practice implementation, and continuous improvements.
