Current Situation
Students and faculty often work together on physical design projects, but their spaces are not optimized for collaboration and work. Students use physical lab facilities to participate in experiments using consumable materials and are limited by resource constraints.
Goals and Objectives
Create makerspaces within the school environment that provide access to specialized tools (e.g., 3D printing, laser measurement) that might not be available in other environments and virtual laboratory experiences to provide students with anywhere access to a lab collaborative space.
Technology Deployed
Enterprise hardware, personal devices, AR/VR viewers, 3D printers, modules/sensors, drones, robots, learning management systems (LMSs), IaaS
Use Case Summary
Makerspaces amplify collaboration opportunities between faculty and students. Students participate in hands-on laboratory sessions in a virtual environment not requiring physical presence or scarce consumable resources. They also enable continuity of lab operations when onsite presence is not possible.
